Dear Colleagues,

We warmly invite submissions to the Mathematical Foundations in Bioinformatics (MatBio) 2021 special issue of the Journal of Computational Biology according to the following call for papers.

The MatBio conference series was founded in 2016, with conferences held annually in London since then. The 2021 conference was on Sept 2021<https://nms.kcl.ac.uk/informatics/events/MatBio2021/>, and we welcome your contribution to this special issue in its place.

*******************************

CALL FOR PAPERS:

*******************************

This special issue on the Journal of Computational Biology will be devoted to topics on novel algorithms for biological sequence and structure analysis, phylogeny reconstruction, and combinatorial algorithms. Submissions presenting original research within these areas are invited.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

* Algorithms and Data Structures

* Complexity Theory

* Graph Theory & Combinatorics

* Combinatorial Optimization

* Sequence analysis

* Online Algorithms

* Streaming Algorithms

* Big data

* Biostatistics

* Image analysis

* Network and graph models

* Scientific data management and data mining

* Machine learning

* Pattern recognition

* Computational evolutionary biology

* Computational genomics

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** Papers which are pure theory, theory supported by experimentation, and applied research are encouraged.

** Papers must contain previously unpublished material.

** Survey papers which are relevant to the topics of the special issue are welcome and will be considered at the discretion of the editors.

** All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual Journal of Computational Biology refereeing process, namely a minimum of two reviews but usually three.

** To begin your submission, please go directly to https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jcb. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one. Once you are signed in, click on “Author” and “Start New Submission.” From there, you will be prompted for specific information regarding the paper (title, etc.). Under Manuscript Type, you must select “MatBio 2021” from the drop-down menu.

 Please visit the Instructions for Authors at https://home.liebertpub.com/publications/journal-of-computational-biology/31/for-authors for complete details to prepare your manuscript.

** Manuscripts must be prepared in either LaTex format or Microsoft Word.

The entire manuscript must be double spaced, Font size 12, including references and tables. Clearly identify unusual or Greek letters.

The Main Document generally includes:

  1. Title Page- Title, Authors & Affiliations [include all email(s)], Running Head
  2. Abstract- 250 words or less with 5 Keywords
  3.  Introduction
  4.  Methods
  5.  Results
  6.  Discussion
  7.  Acknowledgements/Disclosure/Conflict of Interest Statements
  8. References in JCB specified format (LaTex template available upon request)
  9.  Tables (1 per page)
  10. Figure Legends
  11. Figures (You may save as TIF, EPS, Word, PPT, PDF, PNG, JPG. Figures should be clear; resolution for TIF And EPS files are typically 300 dpi resolution. Label each file with the author's last name and Figure number. Ex. Smith Figure 1

For LaTex Submissions: (Please contact the Editorial Office for LaTex templates)

2 Options for uploading files (2nd one is preferred):

1. Upload the main LaTeX file first, selecting the file designation of Main Document.

Then, upload each file that is related to the main.TEX file as is needed for processing, selecting the file designation of TeX/LaTeX Suppl File.

Be sure to upload all style sheets, and reference and bibliography files that are a part of the document.

All figure/ image files must be saved and uploaded in .EPS format in order for the file to properly format and convert.

Check the system-generated PDF of your manuscript, if not all characters convert properly, use the 2nd option below.

2. Authors may choose to upload a complete, full text (including figures and tables) PDF under the file designation "Full Manuscript PDF".

The LaTex source files should be uploaded as a zip file as supplementary data, with the zip file name "SourceFiles.zip".

The preliminary schedule:

** Receipt of articles for the special issue is due by November 1, 2021.

** We will do our best to achieve a thorough and fast review process and publish this issue by late 2022.
