Dear Colleagues,

The Centre for Combinatorics on Words & Applications (CCWA) announces the
establishment of an "Open Problems Garden", where problems in our area of
research can be stated, generalized, specialized, and in general commented
upon -- with URLs provided to solutions or partial solutions, in the happy
event that these occur.

The Garden is split into two sections, not Fruit and Veggies, but rather
Combinatorics on Words and String Algorithms, reflecting the rough
division of our research area into those primarily interested in
mathematical properties and those motivated by applications. Of course we
have great need of both and, indeed, in this regard, most of us are surely
bipolar.

The Garden can be accessed through the CCWA website:

  	https://ccwaperth.wordpress.com/open-problems/

There any visitor can inspect any problem that has already been posted,
and download its description (usually a .pdf file). In order to
contribute in some way to the website, the visitor should first register,
providing an e-mail address and password. Thereafter he/she can submit
material (new problems, comments/solutions for existing ones) to a
Moderator, who will either accept or request modification. There are two
Moderators, one for each section: Jamie Simpson for Combinatorics on
Words, Gabriele Fici for String Algorithms.

On the website itself, we particularly draw your attention to two files:

* Background & Future of the Open Problems Garden

Jamie Simpson provides more detail on the Garden, its background,
   implementation, and use.

* Definitions

Basic definitions in combinatorics on words and string algorithms
that readers and contributors can take as given.

These files are also attached to this announcement.

Kind regards.
