Hi all,

Welcome back and hope you all are well and had a wonderful new year!

I'm Shitong Zhu, a final-year CS PhD student. I'll be helping organize the
security reading group for Winter 2021. As you know, our reading group has
been suspended for a while since mid-2020, due to the pandemic and other
reasons. Entering a new year, both students and faculty members have been
gradually noticing that without a venue where students can present and
discuss latest research in the community, many folks have found it
challenging to keep a fresh/update-to-date research mindset, and more
importantly, engaging discussions with other participants. Moreover, due to
the pandemic, people are becoming disconnected socially. In these regards,
we have decided to resume the reading group, and hope that its
reopening would bring not only new ideas, ignite the research sparkles, but
also re-connect people together with the wide reach this group has been
covering.

As usual, we plan to reserve 1 hour per week for presenting papers and
follow-up discussions. Additionally, we will keep the Zoom channel open
after the 1 hour so that folks can have free chats if they are interested.
I have created a Doodle poll for converging on a time slot for the 1 hour
presentation/discussion allocation:

Note that even the poll shows times for this week, it presents all weeks
until the end of Winter 2021.

Besides the poll, please also sign up/volunteer for the upcoming
presentations in this sheet:

With all the conferences held over the past months, I believe there are
tons of interesting papers that are worth presentations and discussions.
Please don't be shy -- both literature review and presentation skills are
at the very core for the development of graduate students.

Thanks a lot and have a great weekend!

Best,
- Shitong
