StringMasters Workshop
16 and 20 June 2025
Milano, Italy

https://cpm2025.pangenome.eu/p/stringmasters/

We welcome all interested researchers, both senior and junior, to participate in the StringMasters workshop which will accompany the 36th Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM 2025) in Milano, Italy. The venue for StringMasters is the University of Milano-Bicocca, same as CPM 2025. The workshop is organized by Zsuzsanna Lipták, Golnaz Badkobeh, and Dominik Köppl. You can reach the organizers at stringmasters.milano.2025 AT gmail.com

Format and Purpose
==================

StringMasters was established with the aim of bringing together researchers in string algorithms at all levels (senior, junior, especially graduate students) to study current problems of particular theoretical and practical interest. It is informal, with no scheduled presentations, entirely devoted to new research resulting from the interactions among the participants.

Typically small impromptu groups form, of about 2 to 5 researchers, who share a common interest in a problem. Old collaborations are reinforced, and new collaborations are formed. The workshop is accomodated in several meeting rooms to allow space for the parallel working groups and for general milling around.

All interested participants are welcome, around 25-35 participants are expected.

Topics
======

StringMasters research covers all topics related to string algorithms, combinatorics on words, and applications, including but not restricted to:

• Bioinformatics and computational biology • Coding and data compression • Combinatorics on words • Data mining • Information retrieval • Natural language processing • Pattern discovery • String algorithms • String processing in databases • Symbolic computing • Text searching and indexing • Compressed data structures • any other topics related to text algorithms and data structures

StringMasters welcomes participants with interest in any aspect of string algorithms, theoretical or applied.

Registration
============

Participation is free but we ask that you register, so that we can better organize. The registration deadline is June 10th.

History
=======
StringMasters workshops have been held regularly since 2007: among other places in Hamilton, London, Verona, Tokyo, Ottawa, Stellenbosch, Perth, Rouen, Palermo, Prague, Warsaw, Lima, Pisa, Fukuoka, Mauritius, A Coruna, Helsinki, Mont-Saint-Aignan, New York, see https://nms.kcl.ac.uk/stringmasters/main_previous.php for a list of workshops until 2019. This year, StringMasters is taking place around the CPM 2025 conference, following last year's model in Tokyo/Fukuoka (CPM 2024).

=======
Hope to see you in Milano!
