University of Pisa (Italy): 12-months research position

The department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa (https://di.unipi.it/ https://di.unipi.it/) has opened a call for a postdoctoral position on "Parallel and I/O-efficient compression and indexing techniques for the Software Heritage Archive".



The ACubeLab (http://acube.di.unipi.it/ http://acube.di.unipi.it/) invites expressions of interest for a post doc position (SSD INF/01) with a duration of 12 months (call by 2024).



Admission requirement: hold a PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent (to be obtained by the interview’s date). The ideal candidate should be familiar with the following topics: Algorithms, Data Structures, Programming, Data Compression.



Scientific Topics: The AcubeLab is working on the design and implementation of a compressed storage and indexing solution for the Software Heritage Archive (https://www.softwareheritage.org/ https://www.softwareheritage.org/), which is an ambitious initiative launched in 2015 by INRIA (Paris), in agreement with UNESCO, and assembling a group of prestigious supporters and committed sponsors including, among the others, Microsoft, Intel, Google, VMWare, GitHub, Societe Generale, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Its main objective is to collect, preserve, and share software in source code form. At the time of writing, SWH is the largest archive of source code in the world with more than 17 billion source files, coming from more than 250 million projects. This project is also part of our effort in the ICSC (Centro Nazionale di Ricerca in High-Performance Computing, Big Data and Quantum Computing) funded by PNRR. The postdoc, involved in the project, will thus have the opportunity to collaborate with an international environment.
