Genome-scale algorithmics research group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki, Finland, is opening new research positions under the 4-year project "Sequence analysis revisited and extended".

The major new direction of this project is to study what happens to selected classical sequence analysis tasks when labelled directed acyclic graphs are used as inputs. In addition, the line of research with bidirectional Burrows-Wheeler transform -based techniques to sequence analysis is continued. The motivation for the project comes from several timely applications in genome research, e.g., in new ways to represent diploid genomes and pan-genomes in place of the commonly adopted use of a single sequence as the basis of analyses. See the research group pages for more information on the topics:

Pre-application deadline for the postdoc and the 2 PhD student positions is 25.8.2017. Please ask for more information on the positions from veli.makinen at helsinki.fi by this deadline (with few words of introduction, and CV attached); further information on the selection process will then be sent to the pre-applicants.
